Thursday 17 June 2021, 2 to 3.30 p.m.
The next session of the Birkbeck Medical Humanities Reading Group will be led by Maria Patsou, a PhD student at Birkbeck’s School of Arts.
The topic of the reading group is the contested diagnosis of ‘borderline personality disorder’, and how it illuminates difficulties with psychiatric diagnosis in general.
We will consider the following reading:
- Cross-cultural Bias in the Diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder. Suni Jani et al. 2016. Bulletin of the Menninger Clinic. [email m.rashed@bbk.ac.uk if you require access.]
- Personality Disorder: Still the Patients Psychiatrists Dislike? Dimitrios Chartonas et al. 2017. BJPsych Bulletin (Open Access)
Everyone is welcome at the reading group. There is no need to book.
The meeting will be held on Microsoft Teams. The meeting I.D. will be sent to the mailing list prior to the event.
The Birkbeck Medical Humanities Reading Group aims to create a space in which academics, clinicians and students can come together to explore key readings, ideas and materials in the field of medical humanities. Our endeavour is to find ways of talking across the different disciplines of the humanities and medicine, and we welcome participation from colleagues and students interested and engaged in these areas.
